Duet
- What sweet sounds fell upon my ear,
- a melody never before have I heard,
- and one which I never will forget,
- unchained and free, impossible to ignore.
A single instrument played alone,
almost unheard, so soft it's sound,
a sad tune, with notes repeated so low,
lost, alone, echoes through the concert hall.
Then another instrument joins in,
and a gentle harmony unfolds,
a duet so lovely to the ear,
that I am captivated by each chord.
Then the music stops,
a pause is written in the score,
then the tune begins again,
a single tune, alone as before.
The notes are with me still,
running through my mind,
this single tune so low,
which once was part of a duet.
