Untraveled Roads

My life is not a long straight path lined with lessons for me to learn,
but a set of choices for me to make at each and every turn.
And each choice I make will be a very different load,
for me to bear when I choose to travel down its road.

And on each road I take a new adventure brings
undiscovered experience and many wondrous things.
But often I look back down the path I chose to take,
and stop to ask myself "Is this a mistake?"

For those roads that are untraveled, the ones that I bypassed,
may have held the secret to the universe so vast.
Or I may have met along the way, the one to be my love,
someone who was meant for me, sent down by God above.

Who knows what I have missed, or what I've given up,
that waited on another path, the one that I passed up.
But down this road I travel, and can not turn around,
my life's course has been set, and I am onward bound.

Ahead again I'll have a choice of which road I have to take,
and play by ear the music from the decision which I make.
And as I journey through this life, I know I'll always find
a question of what lay on those untraveled roads behind.
