What If...?

What if on some moonlit shore,
grains of sand in my hands I pour.
Could I put them back as before?
Or is this something I should do?

What if I swam the ocean wide,
would I ever reach the other side?
Or if I failed, and then I died,
I wonder what events would then ensue.

What if I climbed the mountains tall,
and looked around to see it all,
and from my lips your name I call?
Would the answer match the view?

What if an acorn I did sew,
and from that seed a tree did grow?
Would birds that nest there ever know?
Or live in ignorance of what I do?

What if I left this valley fair,
and walked through jungle to lion's lair,
Would danger be what I find there?
In truth, I say, I have no clue.

What if I flew into the night?
and searched the heavens for stars so bright?
What attracts me to their light?
Could they be reminders of you?

What if I sang a lovely song,
but had the words and tune all wrong?
Would you remember before too long?
Or tell me that my song was new?

What if I came to you one day,
and told you I had words to say,
That you made me feel a special way?
Would I then learn you loved me too?
